In what must be one of the top national tournaments on the planet, last Saturday and Sunday Alvaro Malpartida and Sol Aguirre won the fifth stage of the Peruvian national tournament in honor of Bernardo Zignago, the local great from northern Peru who died in June while surfing Panic Point.

He was greatly honored because the waves were impressive.

The final was quite close, with Alvaro Malpartida in first place with 12.27, Adrian Garcia with 11.97, Ramon Espinoza with 10.56, Augusto Villaran with 8.74 and German Aguirre with 5.66.

“This championship has been super special, the waves have been with us since the first day and they were the ideal size, this event has been very unique because it was in memory  from Bernardo Zigniago, a friend of mine who lived here and I'm sure he sent us these perfect waves," wrote Alvaro Malpartida on his social networks.

Among the ladies, the current South American champion, Sol Aguirre, demonstrated her local knowledge and won the final as follows:

1. Sol Aguirre 10.2
2. Mohana Benavides 4.
3. Bianca Edwards 1.6

With this result, Adrián García and Sol Aguirre consolidated their position at the top of the ranking.

The next, sixth and last national competition will take place in Punta Rocas between December 15 and 16.

Moment 2: Adrián García is the leader of the ranking and of the five tests that were carried out, this is surely the one he enjoyed the most. "Happy to have enjoyed two days of tubes with good friends in the water in this epic championship, in memory of the master Chato Bernardo, thanks for sending us those waves bro," wrote Adrián on his Instagram.
Moment 3: Fresh from making it to the grand final at the El Buey invitational, Sebastián Correa felt too comfortable on the tubes at El Hueco.
Moment 4: There are few national level tournaments that have the luxury of being held in waves like the one in the photo. In Peru, it is possible.
