There are 20 positive cases of Covid 19 in the World Cup in El Salvador
Among competitors, team staff and organization personnel; they will enter quarantine immediately
“There are just over 20 positive cases” among competitors and staff of the teams that were preparing to compete in the Surf City ISA World Surfing Games, reported the president of the ISA, Fernando Aguerre, at the press conference prior to the event that took place this afternoon, then the authority confirmed to DUKE that there are exactly 20 cases.
Those infected, following the biosecurity protocol, will have to enter a two-week quarantine that could be suspended if a third and fourth test is negative.
In the last few days, all 257 surfers, staff members, and members of the organization who were already in El Salvador and those who were arriving were tested. Aguerre explained that those who tested positive the first time were tested again and if they tested positive a second time, they were quarantined. 564 tests were carried out and 20 were the ones that gave double positives.
The names of the competitors who will not be able to compete tomorrow have not been made public, but it is presumed that they will be published today.
Aguerre stressed that this is not a case of a cluster that was generated here at the event, but rather isolated cases that were imported to El Salvador.
Competitors who tested negative and who start the World Championship tomorrow will be tested again halfway through the event and are required to remain within their bubbles.
