Para Surfing World Cup 2023 will be in Huntington Beach

It will be the eighth ISA World Championship held in Surf City USA; ISA President Aguerre hopes to celebrate there the definitive inclusion of para surfing in LA 2028

The eighth edition of the ISA World Para Surfing Championship (WPSC) will take place in Huntington Beach, California, from November 5-11, 2023, the ISA reported in a press release.

After several years of being held in Pismo, this year the venue will change to Surf City USA. Last year in Pismo, the press release states, more than 180 athletes representing 28 nations participated in the nine categories in dispute.

Para Surfing is being considered for inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games; “last January, the IPC Governing Board confirmed that Para Surfing has demonstrated competitive viability and the integrity of the sport for the Paralympic Games,” the statement reads.

Huntington Beach is once again hosting an ISA event, having hosted the ISA World Surfing Games in 1984, 1996, 2006 and 2022 and the ISA World Juniors in 2005, 2018 and 2019.

“Our greatest hope and dream is to celebrate the inclusion of Para Surfing at the LA28 Paralympic Games during the World Championships. I am so excited to see the world’s best Para Surfers in the iconic Surf City USA for the first time. It will be amazing to see the level of energy and joy that Para Surfing can bring to the Paralympic Games,” said ISA President Fernando Aguerre.

“Visit Huntington Beach, the city’s official marketing organization, is proud to build on the success of previous ISA events here in our city. By hosting the ISA World Para Surfing Championship in early November 2023 at the historic HB Pier, our entire community is once again demonstrating our commitment not only to the ISA, but also to the dreams of world-class Para Surfing athletes who will travel from around the world,” said Visit Huntington Beach President and CEO Kelly Miller.
