More than 150 SUPers and paddleboarders from 27 countries are already in El Sunzal, El Salvador, preparing for the eighth edition of the world championship of these disciplines, which will take place from November 24 to December 1 under the sponsorship of the government of the host country, which is promoting the Surf City project.

Former medalists competing at the event include Casper Steinfath (DEN), Candice Appleby (USA), Connor Baxter (USA), Zane Schweizer (USA), Jade Howson (USA), Izzy Gomez (COL), Titouan Puyo (FRA), and Arthur Carvalho (BRA).

Many of them, such as Baxter, Appleby, and Daniel Hughes, the Brazilian Vinnicius Martins, Izzy Gomez from Colombia, the Peruvians Itzel Delgado, Tamil Martino, and Vania Torres, and the Puerto Rican Maricarmen Rivera come from competing in Lima 2019.

The Hispanic countries that will be present at the tournament will be Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico and Spain.

El Salvador will be the seventh country to host the event (Peru, Nicaragua, Mexico, Fiji, Denmark, China).

"We are proud to continue to bring together the world's best athletes in peace, this time on the beautiful shores of El Salvador. This edition of the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship will be another step in our commitment to develop and grow the sport, giving more opportunities to athletes from all continents of the world," said Fernando Aguerre, President of the ISA in a statement.

It is an interesting time for SUP as the ISA and ICF are locked in a dispute over the international oversight of the sport; the dispute will be determined by what the Court of Arbitration for Sport decides.

Three weeks ago the ICF held what they called the “biggest SUP event ever held” in China with over 200 athletes from 42 countries.
