A canal in Rotterdam has been turned into a wave pool

For 60 Euros an hour you can surf in the middle of the Netherlands

Rotterdam in the Netherlands has just opened its wave pool using an old section of canal to house the air pump, Surf Loch technology (the same as Palm Springs) and is open to anyone who pays the 60 Euros per hour fee.

Local YouTuber Pepijn Tigges tested it out alongside well-known local surfer Kaspar Hamminga and got a good dose of waves far from the ocean.

In the video he explains that although he surfs better waves in his country, the consistency that comes from having that wave every day brings several benefits to his training so he can repeat movements and perfect them.

The wave is in the building phase, it is expected to improve, he says.

“Being a country that does not have many good waves but does have many surfers, this is very welcome during the flat days that we have (…) Rif010 built an artificial wave pool so that surfers and other water sports enthusiasts can enjoy the sensation of riding waves and learn to surf but in a more controlled environment,” he described.

He clarified: “A public wave pool in the Netherlands is not free. It means publicly available for anyone who wants to book a session.”
