A new wave pool with technology not yet widely available will be installed in Palm Springs, California, and is expected to be ready in 2020, two of its owners, Cheyne Magnuson and Kalani Robb, reported on social media and confirmed in an interview they gave to Stab yesterday, Saturday.

According to them, all the shareholders of this new pool are “hardcore surfers” and the first step they took was to buy the Wet N Wild water park in Palm Springs, three hours inland from Los Angeles.

The amount of the sale was not disclosed, nor were the names of the shareholders. It is known that the CEO is James L Dunlop, the president of the NGO Mauli Ola Foundation, which helps people with cystic fibrosis go surfing. This was revealed in a statement sent by the buyer, Pono Acquisition Partners I, LLC, in which it was reported that the Wet N Wild park would not open in 2019 because it will face many renovations.

In the interview mentioned, Robb and Magnusson point out that they will focus on the creation of artificial waves, but they do not want that to be the only attraction; rather, through the park they want there to be a “Disneyland for surfers.”

The Wet N Wild park features slides, lagoons and pools. The one used to make waves is the same one where Rick Kane, the character from The Surf's Up, wins the $500 he uses to travel to Hawaii (in the film he appears in Arizona).

Magnusson, for his part, says he left his job at BSR Park in Waco because he received several job offers with the wave pool revolution and the one to work with Kalani Robb was the one that appealed to him the most.
