An eventful day of training at El Gringo
Three surfers have already visited the hospital for injuries sustained in Pipe Latino
The swell came in strong today in Arica, after two days of small waves, solid waves of two meters and sometimes more in the series, they broke in El Gringo putting on a training session show.
There were broken boards and leashes, tumbles on rocks and some blows that ended in hospital. The Japanese Takuto, the Brazilian Raoni Monteiro and the American Tyler Gunter suffered different injuries that ended up being treated in a hospital in the city of Arica.
Monteiro, a former member of the CT, who has already come to Arica on other occasions and who stands out for surfing heavy waves, could not escape a furious lip that ended up hitting his head against the reef. According to some locals, the Saquarema native lost consciousness for a few seconds but recovered and came out of the water a little dizzy.

The Japanese man seems to have suffered the worst of all the blows, hitting his chest, whether on the board or the bottom. He came out of the water in great pain and weakness and vomited repeatedly. The organisers acted urgently and the ambulance was not long in arriving.
Meanwhile, Tyler Gunter, according to organizers, dislocated his shoulder while surfing yesterday, when the conditions were very small and the rocks were much closer. The severity of the injury is not known, as he looks fine on social media.
As for the waves successfully surfed, the wave of the day belongs to the winner of the Big Wave Awards in the overall performance, Lucas Chumbo Chianca, who managed to get out of a long and deep tube when everyone thought he was dead.
Nic Von Rupp, Joaquín del Castillo, Lele Usuna, Jack Robinson, Kael Walsh, among others, were some of the highlights of the morning surfing.
The event continues tomorrow and the forecast shows that the waves will continue to pump.
We will update in another note.
