A tour of the Challenger Series in photos

Eight postcards from each of the stages

All photos by WSL

The WSL announced today that the challenger series will stop at these eight venues. One is unexpected, the temple that is Saquarema, in Brazil; New Zealand was left out.

Along with information detailing the following dates (more info here):

-Gold Coast Pro presented by Rip Curl: May 7 to 15
-Sydney Surf Pro presented by Rip Curl: May 17 to 24
-Ballito Pro presented by O'Neill: July 3-10
-US Open of Surfing: July 30 to August 7
-Pro Ericeira: October 1 to 9
-Pro France: October 12-23
-Saquarema Pro presented by Banco do Brasil: November 1 to 8
-Haleiwa Challenger: November 26 to December 7:

The following photons arrived:

Stage 1: Gold Coast Pro

The one you see in the photo is just one section of the Super Bank, which in its glory days connected pipes for hundreds of meters.

Stage 2: Sydney Surf Pro

Sydney is not the ideal setting for such an important championship, but it has its moments of fun.

Stage 3: Ballito Pro

The change of date gives more confidence that Ballito will have better waves than those in the photo. The tournament will be held this time in winter, when the south swells in South Africa are more consistent.

Stage 4: US Open of Surfing

Huntington Beach has its bad days and it has its bad days.

Stage 5: To Ericeira

For those qualifying for the CT, the right of Ribeira D'Ilhas is good practice for Bells.

Stage 6: Pro France

Due to the wave season dates, France was left without a CT but won a Challenger. The biggest winners were the surfers.

Stage 7: Saquarema Pro

The only place that has a Challenger and a CT: Saquarema.

Stage 8: Haleiwa Challenger

This photo shows why Haleiwa is so dangerous. It looks friendly but it is not.
