Aguerre: Second Latin American in history to be inducted into the Surfing Walk of Fame

The Argentine was immortalized with a plaque that will live forever in Huntington Beach, California

Argentine Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association, the main person responsible for making surfing an Olympic sport, was added today to the prestigious Surfing Hall of Fame. From now on, a plaque with his name will adorn this pedestrian area in Huntington Beach, California.

This is the second Latin American in history to be included in the parade, the first in the field of honor. The first was Peruvian Sofia Mulanovich in the "Woman of the Year" category.

“Today is a very exciting day,” Aguerre told DUKE. “To be inducted into the Walk of Fame alongside so many people I admire and who represent all the different aspects of surfing. It’s a day to remember forever. Thank you to everyone who helped me on this long Olympic surfing campaign and to the thousands and thousands of volunteers at the ISA and national federations who worked tirelessly to make surfing available to all people.”

In addition to Aguerre, Mick Fanning, Steph Gilmore, Bob McKnight, Rabbit Bartholomew, Ben Aipa, Steve Van Doren and Randy Lewis were inducted today.
