Ainara Aymat received a historic invitation to the US Open trials
She needs to win a heat to become the first Spanish surfer to participate in a CT test
Basque surfer Ainara Aymat was invited to the unique series that will determine the last qualifier for the seventh stage of the women's world circuit, the US Open of surfing that begins tomorrow in Huntington Beach, California.
With a message on her Instagram, Aymat made the announcement: “Update: I finished 17th in the Oceanside 6000 but I am much happier because I received an invitation to my first trials for a CT at the #VansUSOpen in Huntington,” wrote the Zarautz native.
In contact with DUKE, she said: “I am really happy, but I still have to win that heat of the trials to get into the main event. I am really looking forward to competing, and I think it will be nice in the morning without wind.”
Aymat has just achieved his best result of the year, with a 17th place that allowed him to add 1050 points and get into the top 100 of the QS.
The invitation is given because the Vans brand is the surfer's main sponsor.
If she wins the series, she will face Australian Stephanie Gilmore and Californian Sage Erickson.
In the process of historical verification, this would be, if successful, the first participation of a Spanish surfer in the CT.
