Mexican Alan Cleland achieved an incredible victory over world number 9 Barron Mamiya, turning the series in his favor in the final 13 seconds of the match.
Cleland got off to a good start, beating the Hawaiian and scoring a 7,83, but the series was then dominated by Mamiya, who scored a 7,7 and a 7,67, leaving the Mexican needing a 7,54 for a good while.
Cleland tried receiving 6, 6,30, 6,93 and 5,17.
With no priority left, an option came up and Alan paddled with everything but Mamiya surfed it.
Behind him came a bomb that came down, hit deep and gave him an 8,7 and the victory.
Now Cleland awaits an opponent depending on the rest of the elimination round results.
This result has already at least moved Cleland up one spot in the rankings and he is now partially at 18.
