Mexican Alan Cleland finished the Pipe Maters in second place, beating Koa Smith and Ivan Florence and placing himself behind the champion, Nathan Florence.

The Mexican, who started the final heat by taking a switch wave into Pipe, began to compete well after the halfway point of the one-hour decision.

He surfed one where he slowed down and barely made a top before maneuvering hard, and then with another wave with two strong maneuvers he did enough to place second with 21,8 (9+12,8), which would be a 3 and a 4,3.

Smith scored 7,7 and Ivan Florence scored zero.

Meanwhile, Nathan Florence had the best wave of the series, taking a tube to Pipe that earned him 26,5 (approximately 9 points) and backed up with a 15,5 (approximately 5).

It is the first time in history that a Mexican has made it to the final of a Pipe Masters, one of the few times that a Latin American has done so (he joined Medina and De Souza) and the only Hispanic American (if we are talking about the Pipe Masters). Puerto Rican Carlos Cabrero won the HIC Pipe Pro in 2000 and Gabriel Villarán was a finalist in that event in 2007.
