The Mexican dominated a high-calibre final and took the gold medal; Lucca won the silver, Miguel the bronze and Kanoa the copper.
Energetic Mexican power surfer Alan Cleland took the world championship today at the conclusion of the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games.
Cleland, who had advanced via the main event throughout the tournament, had fallen to the repechage in the final and managed to recover in style, making a 9 in the repechage final and then marching confidently into the 30-minute final.
In the first 10, attacking from the backside, he did a 9,73 and an 8,5 to leave the rest of the finalists in a combination.
A good left foot from Lucca Mesinas with five minutes left took him out of the combination but everything was already defined.
The final result was as follows:
Gold: Alan Cleland (MEX)
Silver: Lucca Messinas (PER)
Bronze: Miguel Tudela (PER)
Copper: Kanoa Igarashi (JPN)
