Mexican Alan Cleland came second in the first edition of Natural Selection Surf, a special event held in January in Micronesia to which the Mexican was invited.

The images of the event were broadcast between February 18 and 20, and the results were revealed yesterday.

Cleland made it through the qualifying rounds in a sea that favoured him due to how heavy and perfect he was, and on the final day he beat Californian Eithan Osborne in the semis and was unable to beat Soli Bailey in the grand final.

On the women's side, Australian Milla Coco Brown won the event, beating Californian Kirra Pinkerton in the grand final.

The event featured Nathan Fletcher as technical director, Brad Gerlach as head judge, and Barton Lynch and Lisa Andersen as broadcast hosts.
