Alan finished ninth in El Salvador
He will go to Australia within the qualifying zone.
Special coverage presented by Surf City - El Salvador Travel
Mexican Alan Cleland finished ninth in his participation in the Surf City El Salvador Pro, the fourth stage of the world tour, and will leave the event within the top 22, which makes the mid-year cut and requalifies for the 2026 tour.
Cleland currently appears 21st in the live rankings, and only Crosby Colapinto is still in the event and could pass him. That means, in the worst-case scenario, he'll leave El Salvador in 22nd, still within the qualifying zone.
The Mexican lost to Miguel Pupo in a heat in which the onshore winds blew in, which seemed to have made it difficult for him to maneuver and choose waves.
Cleland was given priority in one that did not produce a score and behind Miguel Pupo scored an 8,5.
However, the Mexican produced a 7,33, which, after Pupo's support of 6,83, left him needing an 8,01.
Cleland set anchor and waited about 10 minutes for a wave from the series that never came.
The quarterfinals of the event were as follows:
Yago Dora vs Matthew McGillivray
Ethan Ewing vs Crosby Colapinto
Italo Ferreira vs Jordy Smith
Cole Houshman vs. Miguel Pupo
