ALAS announced its 2020 calendar with possible new dates in the USA, Ecuador, Panama, Venezuela and Puerto Rico
The organization also made official its new name for the tour, ALAS Pro Tour, reaffirming the welcome to athletes from the United States and Canada.
The Latin American Association of Professional Surfers, ALAS, is planning new stages for the United States, Ecuador, Panama, Venezuela and Puerto Rico for its 2020 calendar, the organization reported in a press release sent over the weekend.
In addition to the usual dates in Reñaca in Chile, Barranca in Peru, Puerto Escondido in Mexico and La Bocana in El Salvador, there are potential events in Manta, Ecuador, Venezuela, Panama, Huanchaco, Mazatlán and Puerto Rico (see the published calendar below).
He also announced that this year the new name of the tour will be made official, changing from Latin to ALAS Pro Tour, thus opening the doors for citizens of the United States and Canada to participate in the circuit.
“With the launch of the ALAS Pro Tour we continue with our main objective of developing surfing on the continent by giving more opportunities to young athletes on their way to professionalism, including more surfers from Canada and the United States so that the level of ALAS continues to grow,” said ALAS President Karín Sierralta.
“Not only have many athletes benefited from ALAS during its 18-year history, but many coastal towns in the region have also grown thanks to the socio-economic development caused by the increase in tourists through the promotion they receive during competitions,” he added.
The tour will begin, as is traditional, between January 13 and 15 in Sector 5 of Reñaca.

Manta, Ecuador, February, 3-Star event. (Exact dates to be confirmed).
Venezuela, February. (To be confirmed).
Panama, March. (To be confirmed).
Barranca, Peru, April 8-10, 3-Star event.
Huanchaco, Peru, May (exact dates to be confirmed), 4-Star event.
California, United States, June. (To be confirmed).
Puerto Escondido, Mexico, October (exact dates to be confirmed), 6-Star event.
Mazatlán, Mexico, October (exact dates to be confirmed), 6-Star event.
Puerto Rico, November. (To be confirmed).
La Bocana, El Salvador, November (exact dates to be confirmed), 6-Star event.
