After several attempts, Ecuadorian Alex Suárez finally won the Pan American surfing championship at the 15th edition of the event. Fifteen-year-old Peruvian Sofía Artieda won the women's open competition.

Colombian Romeo Chávez and Mexican Maya Zoe Mateja won the youth festival, which was a demonstration event.

The day dawned with the same swells that made the news yesterday, but with glassy waves breaking at the El Rosario beach break. As a result, several barrels were seen during today's three-hour event.

Romeo Chávez made two figure eights to achieve the best total of the event. Chilean Reimundo Berry placed second, Barbadian Tomaso Layson third, and Argentine Martín Passeri fourth.

The junior women's final featured Mateja's backside attack, which was key, with a five-point surge that outperformed the rest of the field. Ana González placed second, Kellyani Flores third, and Catalina Zariquiey fourth.

In the men's final, Alex Suárez took control of a left foot, executed a good aerial that he backed up with a wave of maneuvers, leaving Lucas Pérez del Solar in second place, Reimundo Berry in third, and Bruce Burgos in fourth.

In the women's event, Sofía Artieda performed an incredible backside maneuver in the critical section that earned her 8 points, and in close conditions left the rest of the competitors needing a high score.

Silver went to Catalina Zariquiey, bronze to Daniella Rosas, and copper to Génesis Borja.
