All predictions lead to the Mavericks Challenge

Swellazo to hit California on Monday, WSL has not issued a yellow light but says it is “monitoring closely”


A powerful west-northwest swell will arrive at Mavericks on Monday with waves expected up to 40 feet and the WSL has stated on its social media that it is monitoring the swell closely in preparation for the third leg of the World Big Wave Tour that same day.

With two stages already completed, Nazaré and Jaws, this would be the first time in history that the entire tour was completed in almost exactly one month (the Nazaré Challenge took place on November 16).

In a post by ABC News on Twitter, the WSL responded that they were “monitoring the swell very closely.” WSL forecasting company Surfline confirmed the swell was on its way and questioned whether it might be too big.

The yellow alert should be given in the next few hours.

If the green light is given, the news would not be good for the Basque Natxo González who returned from Hawaii with a tear between his lung and ribs.
