Alonso Correa finished ninth at the US Open

He was unable to beat Australian Liam O'Brien; he collected 3500 points for the CT qualification ranking

Peruvian Alonso Correa finished his campaign in the first Challenger of the season, the US Open of Surfing, in ninth position after losing to Australian Liam O'Brien in the round of 16.

The Lima native's good performance earned him 3500 points for the ranking, which are added to the 4000 he had achieved in 2020 for placing second in the QS in Morocco.

In a very slow sea, Correa did not have a good series, it was in the waves that he did not connect and he did not complete the strong maneuvers that he performed, the opposite happened with the Australian who was in rhythm and took risks and finished his movements.

The final score of the series was 12,17 (7,17+5) versus 5,1 (3,17+1,93).

At the end of 2020, the world ranking had Alonso Correa in ninth position. Once the event is over, it is likely that the challenger series will begin with a good ranking.

There are still events to come in Ericeira, Portugal, from October 2 to 10, Hossegor, from October 16 to 24, and finally Haleiwa, from December 26 to 7.
