Alonso Correa made it to the round of 16 at the US Open

He won his series, guaranteed himself 3.500 points and will now face the Australian Liam O'Brien; Mesinas and Ariane Ochoa said goodbye to the tournament

Peruvian Alonso Correa won his round of 24 heat and made it to the round of XNUMX of the US Open of Surfing being held in Huntington Beach, California.

American Cam Richards came second in his series, and his compatriot Lucca Mesinas came third.

The heat had several position changes; Mesinas dominated with two intermediate scores until in the last eight minutes both Richards and Correa surfed their best waves in the heat.

The Peruvian combined two maneuvers on the outside and then did two more on the shore to receive 6,8.

The final score table was as follows:

1st Alonso Correa with 12,26
2nd Cam Ricards with 11,07
3rd Lucca Messinas with 9,6

The result already guarantees him 3500 points, which are added to the 5000 he has had since 2020 for the second place he obtained in Morocco; this will put him in a good position in the ranking for the next three stages.

Messinas left the tournament in 17th place, adding 2000 points to the 2500 he had from last year.

On the women's side, Basque surfer Ariane Ochoa, the last Spanish-speaking competitor in the tournament, was unable to beat Japan's Sara Wakita and was eliminated from the tournament in ninth place, which gives her a valuable 3500 points for the European and Hawaiian stages.
