Peruvian Alonso Correa, Chilean Cristian Merello, Nicaraguan Manny Resano, Basque Natxo González and Colombian Isabella Gómez were invited to the most prestigious big wave event in the world, the Eddie Aikau Memorial Invitational.

This is the first time that the four men have received the invitation, the Colombian woman had already been invited previously.

The tournament waiting period will begin on December 14 and run through March 13.

One of the surprises is the absence of Ramón Navarro, who surfed the best wave of the event in the 2011 edition of Eddie and placed fourth, and who is a regular presence at the annual invitations.

Other names included include Kelly Slater, John John Florence, Kauli Vaast, Mason Ho, and Russell Bierke.
