Alonso and Santiago made it to round 2 in Sydney
The rest of the male contenders were eliminated
Alonso Correa and Santiago Muñiz were the only two Latin American surfers who managed to advance in the men's debut at the Sydney Challenger.
They did it in the same series, Alonso won with 10,34 (5,17+5,17), Santiago came second with 9,83 (5,4+4,43). They left out Michael Dunphy and Slade Prestwich.
It was a day of small waves in Manly and Alonso's victory was based on a wave of combination maneuvers that ended with a good aerial and another in which he did a very high aerial alone.
Muñiz, for his part, managed to combine several clean maneuvers with two left hands to narrowly beat Dunphy.
With small beach break waves, many heats were decided by very little or by interference. Alan Cleland, for example, had his heat turned around in the last minute, Marco Giorgi made an interference, Lucca Mesinas, Adur lost needing a 7 and Lucca Mesinas said goodbye to the event by 0,13.
In the women's branch, the entire first round remains to be completed, which includes Daniella Rosas, Leticia Canales, Leilani McGonagle, Havanna Cabrero, Ariane Ochoa and Nadia Erostarbe.
