Andy Criere and Leticia Canales won the first stage of the Spanish surfing circuit after two days of surfing at the left pointbreak at Las Américas beach in Tenerife, Canary Islands.

Criere scored an almost perfect 18 points (9,50 + 8,50) in his series to leave Vicente Romero in second place, who was not far behind with 17,10. In third place was Ruben Vitoria who scored 15,10 and in fourth place was Luis Díaz who scored 15,05.

“What great waves!” said Criere upon exiting the water. “I got the bombs,” he added. “That was my goal and goal achieved. The final was a bonus, we all surfed incredibly and we got some brutal waves,” he concluded.

Among the ladies, Leticia Canales picked up where she left off in national competition when she won the Siroko Super League at the end of October. The lefts were perfect for her frontside and she left the young local Melania Suárez in second place, Julia González in third and Ariane Ochoa in fourth (returning in form after a year without competing).

The action continues in Las Americas this week as the men's and women's QS 1500 began there on Monday.
