Annette Gonzalez Etxabarri is the new European youth champion

Together with Sam Pitter, who also won the championship, she secured a place in the WSL Junior World Championships; there are two places left for each gender, which will be decided this Sunday.

By reaching the quarter-finals of the JQS Cabreiroá Junior Pro Razo/Caión, the Basque surfer Annette Gonzalez Etxabarri became the WSL European Junior Champion, one day before the end of the circuit.

Gonzalez Etxabarri, 16, had won the stages in Morocco and Brittany and the result obtained on Saturday was enough to guarantee her the title and qualification for the WSL Junior World Championships.

This is the fourth consecutive title for the González Etxebarri sisters, and the first for young Annette.

“I am very happy. It was not easy so I am happy to have gone through it and now I hope my sister can get into the top 2 so that we can both go to the world championship,” said the surfer.

She said this because there are two surfers who qualify for the WSL Junior World Championships and Janire's place, the older sister, has not yet been guaranteed.

Janire will have to overcome the French Nahia Milhau who is virtually in second place.

The women's matches are as follows:

QF 1: Annette Gonzalez Etxabarri (EUK) vs. Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri (ESP)
QF 2: Erica Maximo (POR) vs. Nahia Milhau (FRA)
QF 3: Hina-Maria Conradi (FRA) vs. Aelan Vaast (FRA)
QF 4: Maria Dias (POR) vs. Clemence Schorsch (FRA)

Interesting enough: The sisters will face each other in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, at the men's level, Sam Pitter, son of the legendary Frenchman Didier Pitter, also won European champion.
