The photographer of the Medina image that went around the world, Jerome Brouillet, gained 200.000 followers in less than a week, as can be seen on his Instagram and as he himself told several media outlets.

Brouillet, who was hired by AFP, Agence France-Presse, was in the right place at the right time and his photo, distributed by the agency, was named by Time Magazine as “the definitive moment of triumph of the 2024 summer games” and traveled through the networks like wildfire.

As legendary local photographer Tim McKenna told DUKE, he was offered the agency job and turned it down because he wanted to enjoy the Games and not be stressed out uploading photos.

According to DUKE and other media reports, agency work is paid at $300 to $400 per day for a beginner photographer like Jerome, who has been taking surfing photos for about five years.

DUKE's presence in Tahiti to cover Olympic surfing is also possible thanks to Xavier Aguirre, Philippe Demarsan, Pepe Gelos, Chifle Perez del Castillo, Juanja Vargas, Mateo Christodulu, Josefina and Tomas Barbe, Monica Ugalde, Pilar Aguerrebere, Edu Fernandez, Wilma Ehni, Guzman Sari, Andres and Amadeo Soler, Luis Vargas and Gonzalo Madrid.
