The Australian longboarder is another longboarder who, despite not qualifying for the finals in El Salvador, chose to go to the land of perfect right-handers and enjoy the country's waves while the WSL finals are taking place.

“I’m still going to El Salvador to surf and cheer on the top 16 surfers,” the Australian wrote on his Instagram.

Ellice Flint joins Japanese brothers Taka and Kaede Inoue who also missed out on the top eight finishers after the Abu Dhabi leg and chose to go to El Salvador anyway because, they said, the waves there are perfect.

“This past week at the WSL Abu Dhabi event was an incredible experience and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend. There’s nothing negative I can say about the event so to the hundreds of people who made it possible, thank you! Last week unfortunately meant I dropped out of the top 8 and placed 11th, meaning I didn’t qualify again but I’m hopeful of securing a wildcard for the season,” said Ellice Flint.

She added: “I didn’t feel like myself this week, I felt a total disconnection from my inner spark and that state of fluidity in the water. That being said, to all the new and old friends, you really made the trip super special, with lots of love and friends” and ended by reporting on her trip to El Salvador.

The best eight players in the world qualify for the WSL finals, which determine the champion in one day.

The eighth-seeded players have to go through four series to face the first-placed players. In this case, Taylor Jensen and Soleil Errico will wait all day for the final of the finals, which is a best-of-three match.
