Antequera, Resano and Robles, the new leaders of the ALAS ranking
An X-ray of the current number 1s on the continental table

The Peruvian stage of the ALAS ranking changed the leadership of the continental ranking in the Open and Ladies categories, from Bryan Pérez to Darshan Antequera and from Noah Klapp to Candelaria Resano. Meanwhile, at the youth level, since the category was not contested in Jacó, Manuel Robles took the lead.

The first eligible in the open women and open men will earn a place per gender in Santiago 2023, so this year's race has special weight.
Below are details of each of the new ranking leaders:

Darshan Antequera
A well-rounded surfer who mixes basic and modern surfing well, while also having a special taste for big waves.
To talk about versatility is to talk about Darshan: Before competing in a meter in Jacó he was riding giant waves in Puerto Escondido. He placed third in the Costa Rican beach break and went to another very different type of waves: Punta Rocas.
That powerful backside helped him keep up the pace in the heavy waves he is known to like. With another third he took the lead in the rankings.

Candelaria Resano
For over a year now, Candelaria Resano has been managing to translate her good surfing into excellent results; she was top 20 at the ISA Open World Championship in El Salvador 2021, she was top 10 at the Junior World Championship a couple of months ago and it was time to at least partially achieve first place.
The Nicaraguan placed fourth in Jacó, traveled to Peru and placed third, no one had her consistency or intention and that is why she assumed the lead.
With a surfing system with good fundamentals that explodes when she attacks the heavy sections, Candelaria is also a good competitor with a lot of experience in international tournaments for her age. And, needless to say, when the sea rises, she is a threat to anyone.
An important detail is that, as there are no major rivals from their country that could take their place in higher-ranking tournaments in the run-up to Santiago 2023, if they maintain their lead, they will have one and a half feet in the second largest multi-sport event in the world.
Manuel Robles
A big surprise, at least at the international level. Manuel is 16 years old, he was not part of the Peruvian youth team at the World Championships in El Salvador, nor was he part of the team at the South American Championships in Mar del Plata. But with the surfing of a big man, with an impressive line and fundamentals, he flowed towards victory and overcame a minefield of talent (if there is youth talent anywhere, it is in Peru).
With focus and dedication, this young man, now leader of the ALAS circuit, has what it takes to dream big.
