Reimundo Berry and Isidora Bultó of Chile, Urpi Torres, Bastián Arévalo, and Catalina Zariquiey of Peru, and Sam Reidy of Costa Rica won gold medals today in the Under 16, Under 18, and Open categories of the South American Surfing Championship, which held its fourth day of competition today.
Of the six medals awarded today, two went to Chile, three to Peru, and one to Costa Rica. Adding yesterday's medals, the total number of medals awarded is eight: four to Peru, two to Chile, one to Argentina, and one to Costa Rica.
The waves eased off at Chicama but settled more firmly on the bank at Chicama Point, giving the competitors more organized and predictable lefts. This was a departure from the previous days, when the surf was bigger.
The result generally favored the Peruvians, who had finalists in all the decisions and in the four in which they did not win, they placed fourth (Raúl Ríos in Open), third (Adrián de Osma in Under 18), second (Sofía Artieda in Under 16) and third (Hannah Saavedra).
