Argentina and Peru began dominating the South American Youth Championship

The locals have a slight advantage because they keep all their members in the main event

The youth teams from Argentina and Peru showed clear dominance on the first day of the South American Youth Championship being held in Honu Beach, Mar del Plata.

While both are the only countries that have all 12 of their competitors left, Argentina is in a better situation because all of its members have already progressed to the final of the main event. Peru, meanwhile, saw two of its own fall: Sean Goldzmit and Antina del Solar, who managed to get through their round 1 heat of the repechage.

The place in the main event finals that the two Peruvians gave up was taken by Chileans Estela López (in women's under 18) and Vicente Becerra (in men's under 16).

Uruguay, the fourth team to participate, managed to keep three of its competitors alive in the tournament, all in the play-offs: Alfonso Roel in the under 18, Lucas Raineri in the under 14 and Manuela Carballo in the under 16.
