Argentine Tour to pay equally in 2021
Authorities presented this year's tour with five stages: Chapadmalal, Miramar, Honu Beach, Playa Grande and La Paloma
The Argentine surfing circuit will be one of the first national tours in America and the world to pay equally for its dates, the organization reported in a statement sent to the press.
After the penultimate stage of the 2020 tour, the champion, Ornella Pellizzari, filed a complaint on social media asking for equality in circuit payments, which were approximately $60 for women and $120 for men.
His proposal went viral. The Argentine tour said that they would meet with the surfers to make a decision and last Friday at an event that took place in Luna Roja, they announced in favor of the aforementioned proposal.
“I am very happy to know that we are going to have a five-date Argentine circuit in good wave spots. I want to thank the ASA for valuing the female competitors for our effort and dedication and I want to invite all the girls to join in competing in this beautiful sport. This year is going to be incredible!” said Lucia Cosoleto.
Meanwhile, the president of the Argentine association, Alfredo Tórtora said: “We are very happy to be able to start a new Argentine Open Surf Tour and we are grateful to the sponsoring brands and organizers for their support. We achieved equal prize money for the female category, agreed upon by the CD, organizers and athletes, demonstrating the evolution of our sport” Freddy Tortora President ASA.
According to the statement, 500.000 Argentine pesos, approximately 5.000 dollars, will be distributed this year.
As for the tour itself, the stages, without announced dates, are as follows:
1 OPEN CROWN PRO CHAPADMALAL
2 CHILDREN OF THE SEA PRO MIRAMAR
3 HONU BEACH PRO
4 RIP CURL PRO PLAYA GRANDE
5 QUIKSILVER OPEN PRO LA PALOMA
