In a close final, the Argentine surf team won its first South American surfing championship title today on the waves of Honu Beach, Mar del Plata.

Just like last year, the locals and Peruvians had a separate duel for the title of team champions and this year things went well for the Argentines.

Although both won three of the six categories in dispute; Peru won in the under 14 women's and men's categories and in the under 16 men's categories, and Argentina did the same in the under 18 women's and men's categories and won in the under 16 women's categories, the difference was in the number of second places (four Argentines were runners-up).

The final team ranking was as follows:

1. ARGENTINA 9703 pts.
2. PERU 9030 pts.
3. CHILE 7542 pts.
4. URUGUAY 5998 pts.
5. COLOMBIA 1415 pts.

This is Argentina's first team victory in the tournament in five events, Peru having won two and Colombia two.
