At this time, there are three surfers, team officials or staff of the ISA World Surfing Championship in El Salvador who are positive for Covid-19, the International Surfing Association reported in a statement sent this morning, Monday.

Originally, there were seven competitors in quarantine, they were tested again and four, three athletes and one team official, came back negative. Following protocol, they were tested again and again came back negative so they can return to competition.

“As for the three individuals remaining in the quarantine hotel under the control of the Salvadoran government, they will continue to be tested daily. They will remain in quarantine until their tests come back negative,” the statement said.

“No specific details will be released regarding the teams and individuals who have tested positive. The ISA will provide further information and statements regarding COVID-19 after additional rounds of testing are completed,” it concluded.

Originally there were 18 positive cases, but after several rounds of testing the number dropped to seven, of which the three mentioned above now remain.

At this point, more than 700 tests must have been carried out.
