Australian government pays for surfing trips for CT prospects and potential members

They want athletes to arrive at the tour with more experience on their waves

The Australian government is paying for surfing trips for surfers with a chance of making the CT and for junior competitors with national or international titles, the Stab website reported the day before yesterday.

The idea behind this is that surfers arrive prepared for the world tour waves that they are not used to competing in because the QS qualifying stages are usually held in very different waves than those of the CT.

“Basically the government gives money to Surfing Australia for people like myself and others who are about to qualify for the CT and put together a mission to travel to a place,” Reef Heazlewood said.

It is a requirement that the place chosen to travel is a CT stop.

Young surfers with good results at national, regional or international level can also participate.

QS competitors can receive money for up to three trips per year, those under 18 two and those under 16 one.

One of Reef Heazlewood's planned trips is to Jeffreys Bay, where he wants to improve his backside attack.
