Axi Muniain appears as a substitute in the Nazaré Challenge

Two Spaniards could compete in the world big wave tour stage


Basque surfer Axi Muniain appears as the fourth alternate for the Nazaré Challenge according to the list released by the WSL the day before yesterday, the day the waiting period for the stage of the world big wave tour was opened.

With this, there could be two Spaniards competing in the event since Natxo González will be competing in all three events, after having qualified for the CT of big waves last year.

The list released by the WSL is as follows:

Billy Kemper, Kai Lenny, Ian Walsh, Makuakai Rothman, Lucas Chianca, Jamie Mitchell, Tom Lowe, Alex Botelho, Greg Long, Natxo Gonzalez, Will Skudin, Grant Baker, Nathan Florence, Jojo Roper, Russell Bierke, João De Macedo, Rodrigo Koxa, Antonio Silva, Hugo Vau, Nic Von Rupp, João Guedes and three guests of the commissioner.

Substitutes: Ryan Hipwood, Andrew Cotton, Tom Butler, Axi Muniain

Muniain has vast experience in Nazaré, in addition to surfing in the biggest sessions at the wave, he has worked as security personnel for the tournament.
