Axi Muniain tamed a new giant wave in the Basque Country
Izarraiz is giant and heavy, and here the filmmaker tells how the day was and how he got the shot
"It was a very long and hard day, It was raining all day, I came home with wet underwear. The conditions were very difficult. A boat with photographers and filmers had to turn back without achieving anything, due to the poor conditions.
I climbed a mountain to get that image. I intended to go down the rocks, but it was raining and very windy, it was dangerous.
It is a wave that surfers in the area have been watching for many years, wanting to surf it, but access is difficult and there has to be a lot of swell for it to break.
Yesterday, Axi Muniain, with the help of Pablo Garcia, finally caught that wave for the first time in history. The wave is called Izarraiz and is located at the foot of Mount San Anton in Getaria, Basque Country.
"I was able to get those images and I came home with my underwear wet from the rain for hours," said Ritxi Goya, author of the video.
