Longboarders Carlos Bahía and Piccolo Clemente at the men's level and María Fernanda Reyes and Chloe Calmón at the women's level have already guaranteed themselves at least the bronze medal in surfing at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

By advancing to round 4 of the main event, men and women will face each other in a round with a series of two people, whoever loses will “fall” to the bronze series and whoever loses in that will win precisely the medal destined for third place.

Whoever wins that series will go on to the grand final and fight for gold.

These four longboarders became the first surfers to guarantee themselves a medal in Santiago 2023.

Bahía defeated Julián Schweizer who will now face Amado de Jesús Alvarado from El Salvador, Clemente defeated Rafael Cortez who will now face Cole Robbins from the United States, Reyes defeated Agostina Pellizzari who is awaiting an opponent and Calmón did the same against Sindy Portillo who is also awaiting an opponent.

Alvaradon defeated Martin Perez of Argentina and Robbins defeated Agustin Cedeno of Panama, and that is why they will face those who lost in the main event round 3 in repechage 3.

Today, the shortboard repechages took to the water, with Marcos Correa from Brazil, Chileans Manuel Selman and Guillermo Satt and Canadian Cody Young advancing, and JJ López, Franco Radziunas, Isauro Elizondo and Sebastián Williams saying goodbye.

In the women's category, Regina Pioli, Sol Aguirre, Lucía Indurain and Ornella Pellizzari defeated Samanta Alonso, Isabella Gómez, Jessica Anderson and Mimi Barona respectively.

The winners of the play-off are waiting for their opponents because round 2 of the main event has not yet taken place.

Meanwhile, in SUP Surfing, the members of round 3 of the main event were defined, who are one step away from winning medals: Luis Diniz from Brazil will face Felipe Rodriguez from Mexico and Zane Schweitzer against Max Torres from Puerto Rico.

Whoever wins these series will have guaranteed at least the bronze.
