Barona, Muñoz, Tudela and Romero made it to round 4 of the Newcastle 6000

Giorgi, Tomás Tudela, McGonagle, Martiño and Canales said goodbye to the tournament


Ecuadorian Dominic Barona, Costa Rican Carlos Muñoz, Peruvian Miguel Tudela and Spaniard Vicente Romero have just concluded a very good day at the QS 6000 in Newcastle, Australia, in which they placed among the top 24 in the tournament.

Barona used her powerful backside to place second in her heat ahead of former CT and current vice-leader of the QS rankings, Sage Erickson and another former CT, Claire Bevilacqua.

Tudela won their match thanks to a backside aerial that was worth over eight points and left Miguel Pupo, Jack Freestone and Tiago Camarao behind.

Muñoz flowed on a right in which he performed several maneuvers to receive 9,07 that he backed up with a 7,03 to win the battery and leave Charly Quivront, Jessé Mendes and David Vlug behind.

Romero combined some right-footed maneuvers with a good aerial to place second ahead of Liam Mortensen and Nat Young.

All of them were guaranteed at least 1050 points.

On the other hand, Marco Giorgi, Tomás Tudela and Noe Mar McGonagle said goodbye to the men's event.

Among the ladies, Melanie Giunta, Josefina Ané, Brisa Hennessy and Leilani McGonagle are still to compete in their round 3 series.

Lucía Martino and Leticia Canales failed to make it through their second round series.

Ariane Ochoa said goodbye in round 1 surfing well, she looks recovered from her knee injury.
Lucia Martino finished first in her round 1 heat but was unable to repeat.
