Barona made the podium in France
The Ecuadorian placed third in the QS 1500 Pro Anglet, she did not improve her score line but is in shape for the 6000 in Pantín
Ecuadorian Dominic Barona placed third in the Pro Anglet, a tournament on the world qualifying circuit (QS) that took place on the waves of Chambre du Amor, southwest of France.
Barona's score line is so high that this third place, which gives her 840 points, completely rules her out. The Montañita native has two victories in 1.000-point events as her worst results.
A win would have helped her improve her score a little, and she went for the win in her semi-final series, where she scored 14,44 with a 7,17 and a 7,27, but Australian Zahli Kelly, fresh from winning in Lacanau, had other plans and scored 15,44.
Spain's Lucía Martiño achieved another respectable fifth place (she had also finished fifth last week in Lacanau); she also lost to the inspired Australian Zahli Kelly.
Now comes the most important test of the European leg, the Pantin Classic, which is a QS 6000 for women and the penultimate chance to score strong points with CT potential before the Port Stephens Pro in November in Australia, the last test of the year.
