Barron Mamiya: “I’ll be back and ready for the next event.”

The Hawaiian's knee injury does not appear to be serious; he says he will be in Brazil between June 21 and 29.

Hawaiian Barron Mamiya, who did not show up to surf his round of 16 heat against Connor O'Leary yesterday, confirmed in an Instagram post that he will be back for the Brazil leg.

“I'll be back and ready for the next event,” he concluded, adding the Brazilian flag to his message.

The WSL said she suffered a knee injury after beating Kelly Slater.

“Damn... Sometimes it's hard to understand why things happen when they happen. It's definitely tough getting injured this late in the year, but I'm so thankful for the love and support from my family and team. This is just a small bump in the road to something bigger,” Mamiya reflected on his Instagram.

With this, O'Leary went straight to the quarterfinals, which were as follows:
HEAT 1: Joel Vaughan (AUS) vs. Griffin Colapinto (USA)
HEAT 2: Yago Dora (BRA) vs. Ethan Ewing (AUS)
HEAT 3: Cole Houshmand (USA) vs. Jack Robinson (AUS)
HEAT 4: Kanoa Igarashi (JPN) vs. Connor O'Leary (JPN)
