Former world champion Barton Lynch will be working with Carlos Muñoz starting with the Portuguese leg of the CT, the Australian himself announced on the podcast hosted by former professional and filmmaker Peter King.

“Breaking news: Carlos Muñoz and Barton Lynch will be working together towards the Portuguese leg of the WCT. Potentially more exciting news to come,” King noted in the post, in which Lynch does not spare praise for the Costa Rican.

“We’re going to be training him there so it’s going to be exciting to work with him and maximize his opportunities and try to get him to make the mid-year cut, which would be amazing,” Lynch said.

He added: “Carlos Muñoz for me represents the opportunity to change your life through surfing. He’s an incredible talent, an amazing surfer, he qualifies for the tour and gets injured and isn’t able to surf that half of the year that he qualified for and now he’s received his wildcard and has a chance in the first half of this year. And his energy is as bright as anyone I’ve ever met, he’s an ambassador for stoke. He’s one of those people you want to be around.”

Muñoz has historically been trained by Jim Hogan and their relationship is very close. Lynch is expected to join forces with the Costa Rican team.

Muñoz accumulated two 17s in the two stages completed, Pipe and Sunset, and is tied for 24th with six other surfers.

Taking place on a beach break similar to that of Playa Hermosa, the Portugal stage is, on paper, one of the toughest for Muñoz.
