In the last three days, two of the most important big wave events in Latin America were announced: The traditional Punta de Lobos and Pico Alto tournaments.

Last Friday, the Peruvian subsidiary of the Quiksilver brand announced that the event will be held between April and May and that they will soon be releasing the guest list.

The Peruvian community reacted and even the former two-time champion of the tournament who is now based in Miami, José Jarita Gómez, wrote that if he is invited he will return home to ride his favorite wave.

On the other hand, today Monday the communication from Big Wave International Lobos por Siempre made official the launch of the tournament and the beginning of the waiting period that will run from April 15 to August 15.

Among the 28 guests of the event will be Ramón Navarro, Diego Medina, Cristian Merello, Alejandro Fuenzalida, Catalina Escobar, Kelly Slater, Kohl Christensen, Natxo González and Gabriel Villarán.

"Lobos por Siempre represents many things to me. It is a unique event to practice big wave surfing at the highest level and measure yourself against the best in the world, in a sea that I have known since I was a child. It is also a space to show the conservation and sustainability projects that we are developing in Punta de Lobos and our coasts," said local great Ramón Navarro.

The event will be in Eddie Aikau format, with two heats per surfer from which the four best waves for each surfer will be selected, regardless of which heat they surfed in.

In addition to the championship, there will be beach clean-ups, guided walks, talks, travelling exhibitions by local photographers and environmental documentaries.
