Billy Kemper and Paige Alms won again in Jaws

Hawaiian supremacy in the feared spot continues to hold

Hawaiians Billy Kemper and Paige Alms won the Jaws Big Wave Championship today on the heavy waves at Peahi, Maui, which broke in the 35-50 foot range in rough conditions with very strong offshore winds for much of the day.

It was Kemper's fourth win and Paige Alms' third; the Hawaiian has won four of five events at Jaws and Alms has won three of four.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: This is my pride and joy, I put blood, sweat and tears into Jaws, this is my backyard and I’m very territorial,” Kemper said in her championship interview.

Kemper's victory came thanks to a giant right hand he found in the opening minutes of the final, landing a barrel and scoring a 7,83 which he then backed up with a 5,6 to add 21,26. Ian Walsh came close with a 20,03. The rest of the field finished lower, with Nathan Florence third, Kai Lenny fourth, Makua Rothman fifth and Lucas Chianca sixth.

Meanwhile, Paige Alms did the same in her series, she waited for the right one, completed the drop, failed to connect but the judges paid 6,17 for a total of 12,34 that was fought over by the Australian Felicity Palmateer who landed a couple of bombs from the backside in the tournament.

Third place went to Annie Reichert, fourth to Keala Kennelly, fifth to Emily Erickson and sixth to Michaela Fregonese.

Everything indicates that tomorrow, December 13, the CT 2019 will come to an end, with what is expected to be the final day of the Pipe Masters and the crowning of a new world champion.
