Surf Brazil, the federation that governs surfing in the country, is already preparing all the details for a successful Olympic qualification and participation, the organization's VP reported yesterday in an interview on the PASA live broadcast during the Pan American Surf Games.
Among other things, they are preparing a training camp in Lowers that will be attended by everyone who believes they have a chance of qualifying for the Olympic Games, Moura said.
Regarding the new qualification process, the former CT member who now works at the federation said that the best Brazilian athletes on the CT have already expressed their intention to be part of the Brazilian teams, in the ISA World Championships, starting this year (the WSG which grants an extra spot), next year (in the Pan American Games and World Surfing Games) with a view to reaching Lima 2027.
Moura was clear: Lima 2027 provides athletes with specific qualifications and is the first step towards Los Angeles 2028. Knowing this, the top athletes on the CT showed interest in being part of the paths that lead to qualification there.
Regarding logistics for LA 2028, the Brazilian delegation has already conducted a technical visit to identify a location near the Lowers surf spot. While the exact location wasn't specified, it's presumed to be San Clemente. They are also working on transportation to the surf spot to ensure the athletes arrive as focused as possible.
The Brazilians' goal is to reach, as in 2024, with the six surfers, the maximum possible.
The medal they are missing is the women's gold; Italo Ferreira won gold in Tokyo 2020.
The other aspect that Moura touched on in the talk was the support they receive from their country's Olympic committee because of the importance of surfing.
This allows him to make well-executed plans from beginning to end.
