The Brazilian surf team claimed the team championship trophy early today at the ISA World Surfing Games presented by Vans, according to calculations made by DUKE.
Kelly Slater's loss in the playoff final leaves no mathematical chance, even with Kolohe Andino winning, for the Americans to overtake the Brazilians.
In the worst case scenario, Brazil has already scored 3730 points (if Medina and Italo Ferreira place third and fourth in the grand final) and the most the United States can get is 3555, which is what would happen if Kolohe Andino wins the championship.
Only the grand finale, featuring Italo Ferreira, Gabriel Medina, Kolohe Andino and Shun Murakami, remains to be held at the event.
The Brazilian team had already pulled away in the women's event, with Silvana Lima placing second and Tatiana Weston fifth.
Then, the third best result for the Americans was 300 (Conner Coffin) and Toledo, who left the championship, had already reached 500 points with his ninth place.
