Brazil launched its own big wave competition
Online event in the style of the Big Wave Awards but only with waves surfed in Brazil
With a window that began on May 17 and ends on October 1 of this year, the Extreme Club Boardriders contest announced its launch; the aim of awarding, in the style of the WSL's Big Waves Awards, the biggest and best surfed waves in Brazil, according to local site Waves.
The categories in competition are Wave of the Year, for both men and women, Biggest Wave (including Surf, SUP, Kitesurf and Bodyboard athletes), and will also award Wipeout of the Year.
To participate, surfers can send their photos and videos of waves surfed in Brazilian territory to the email extreclubboardriders@gmail.com, with the specifications indicated on the official website of the contest.
The competition will be judged by renowned figures in the Brazilian big wave community, and the criteria is clear: Whoever rides the biggest wave, closest to the critical part of the wave and with the highest level of difficulty and skill, will win the prizes, which include a trip to Hawaii.
There will be five grand finalists in each category and the winners will be announced at the Extreme Boardriders Party taking place in November in Barra de Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.
