Brazilian surfer dies after shark attack in the United States

It was the first fatal attack in 80 years on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

The surfer was pulled from the water and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Brazilian surfer Arthur Medici died last Saturday after being attacked by a shark while surfing in the waves of Newcomb Hollow Beach, in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, reported the Brazilian website Waves.

The Vila Velha, Espírito Santo native lived in the small town of Revere, in the same state where he was attacked, where he studied engineering.

The US National Park Service says it was a “suspected great white shark.” “It died from injuries from the attack. Medici was pulled from the water and taken to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

According to some witnesses, they were surfing with another friend very close to the shore.

Authorities immediately banned swimming on the area's beaches until further notice.

This is the first fatal shark attack on the beach in 80 years. Records show there has been an increase in attacks there, however, with a 61-year-old man attacked in the area last month.

Medici was 26 years old and studying engineering at a university near Cape Cod.
