Brazilians dominate in historic first day of QS 3.000 for Ladies

After 20 years, the dream of Peruvian professionals to have a major event in their home country came true

Brazilian surfers had the best surfing on the first day of the Claro Open Pro Copa Tubos, the 17th tournament of this year's QS circuit, which saw a historic day marking the return of a major QS event to the Peruvian coast after 20 years.

The three best scores of the day were all Brazilians, with Tiago Camarao scoring 14,50, Luan Carvalho 13,80 and Luan Wood 13,50. All three were comfortable on the lefts of up to one metre, which they broke perfectly throughout the day on Señoritas.

Meanwhile, the best Peruvian today was Carlos Mario Zapata, who once again showed a polished, powerful and fast backside and a very efficient competitive tactic. He left Shaun Burns in second place, Dunga Neto in third place and Gustavo Bertotto (who was the top seed) in fourth place.

Accustomed to surfing only right-handers, Brian Perez from El Salvador showed that he can also break on lefts and made it to round 2. All photos: WSL/Ricardo Malaver
Javier Swayne returned to the courts, surfed well but failed to make it through his heat.

A total of 11 series were held, the entire round 1 and three round 2 heats, and thus two round 3 series were determined:

-Kaiki Yamanaka vs Sebastián Correa vs André Goncalves vs Shaun Burns
-Nicolas Vargas vs Fernando Junior vs Carlos Mario Zapata vs Krystian Kymerson

There is still a long way to go, there are seeded teams in the tournament until the fourth round and only 11 of the 75 series that will go into the water to determine a champion have been played.

We will expand with more photos, videos and information.

Luan Wood from Brazil gave a backside surfing lesson and posted the third best score of the day.
Toto from Romagna placed second in his heat and safely made it to round 2.
