Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy will begin her 2021 season in Maui facing Australian Sally Fitzgibbons and Frenchwoman Johanne Defay, the World Surf League reported today, which made public the round 1 matches of the Maui Pro that will take place between December 4 and 15 on the days when Honolua Bay has better waves.

Hennessy finished the 2019 season in 11th place and re-qualified via the QS ranking, finishing in 5th place (she would have re-qualified 10th without the pandemic as Carissa Moore had said she would not compete in 2019).

The pandemic ended up costing Amuro Tsuzuki dearly, who had qualified without Moore, but with the defending champion, she was left out.

The wildcard was given to the young talent, Bettylou Sakura Johnson, who hit some great tubes at the Mentawai.

On her Instagram, Brisa said an emotional goodbye to the island of Namotu, Fiji, and its people, where she spent the last eight months in a quarantine that many consider a dream.
