Special coverage presented by Capi Bar
Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy finished third in the Pipe Pro that concluded yesterday on a good day of tubes in the queen of the waves and began the year within the qualifying zone for the WSL finals.
Hennessy began the day by winning her quarter-final series against Brazilian Luana Silva but then fell short against eventual event champion Caitlin Simmers.
Simmers was superior to Molly Picklum in the grand final, the 18-year-old found a couple of good waves at Backdoor and with that she overcame the Australian who did not repeat the 10 she had surfed in the semis.
The Californian took on the yellow lycra, scoring her third career CT win.
Meanwhile, in the men's competition, everything looked set for John John in an all-Hawaiian final against Barron Mamiya, but the final wave came to the latter, giving him 100 points and leaving the trophy with the younger of the two. The final score was 10 to 16.
Mamiya declared that it was the best day of his life because he beat the best in history at Pipe.
The tour now continues to Sunset where the waiting period for stage 12 begins on the 2th.
