Brisa Hennessy from Costa Rica qualified for Tokyo 2020
The Costa Rican lost in Maui but so did Paige Hareb, the only surfer who could have saved her from surfing's historic debut at the games.
Brisa Hennessy from Costa Rica has just guaranteed her qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after minutes ago, Kiwi Paige Hareb was left out of the Maui Pro, there is no athlete left who can knock the Costa Rican out.
According to DUKE's calculations, the eight eligible positions for Tokyo 2020 will be made up of two North Americans, two Australians, two Brazilians, one Frenchwoman and one Costa Rican.
It now remains to be seen whether Hennessy re-qualifies for the CT through the CT or remains through the QS, given that by losing in round 2 she left the door open for several athletes to overtake her in the rankings.
At the event being held in Maui, Hennessy lost in the elimination round to Johanne Defay and Tyler Wright after having lost in round 1 to Sally Fitzgibbons and Paige Hareb.
